Insurance Company Tactics
Following a car crash, slip and fall, or any other incident resulting in injury to you or someone you know, the insurance company or claims service will enter the picture as soon as they are notified. The insurance adjustor may seem caring and friendly, as if they are on your side, however their sole purpose is to pay the least compensation possible in order to save money for the insurance company. Adjustors are trained to convince injured parties to accept less than full compensation by claiming you were partially at fault and that your pain is likely to subside in the near future. The simple truth, however is they are not working or advocating for you. While there is no harm being courteous with them, in the vast majority of claims you are not required to speak with them, and you should not speak to them about the facts and circumstances of the accident without first consulting an attorney specializing in injury cases caused by others’ negligence.
Insurance companies have used tactics such as appearing at victims’ homes or even hospital rooms with a check and release documents. While this may tempt an accident victim in their most vulnerable state, their behavior is a red flag that they are acting unfairly and only in the interest of the insurance company. As an injury victim, you are entitled to have an advocate protecting your rights and looking after your interests. This is the primary reason to consult with a personal injury specialist as soon as possible following an accident.
